Creative Confidence

Tom Kelley and David Kelley are brothers, both of IDEO, and their 2013 book argues that creativity is not a trait some people are born with and most are not, but a capacity that can be recovered and practised. The official site describes it as a book on unleashing the creativity that lies within everyone, and its structure sets out the route the authors propose. An introduction on the heart of innovation is followed by a chapter on flipping from design thinking to creative confidence, then one on moving from fear to courage, one on getting from a blank page to an insight, and one on moving from planning to action. Later chapters take the argument from duty to passion, from the individual to what the authors call creatively confident groups, and out into practical use. David Kelley is the founder of IDEO and of the Stanford design school, and gave a TED talk on building creative confidence in 2012 that shares the book's thesis. For the vault the relevant point is that this is the book that Build points its readers at for design thinking, and the attribution there is sound.
