Ward 7
Tarsis tells the story of Valentine Almazov, a Soviet writer committed to a Moscow psychiatric hospital rather than brought before a court. The novel draws directly on the author's own detention in the Kashchenko hospital, and depicts the ward as an instrument of the state.
