Perceived Diagnosticity

Perceived Diagnosticity

Reviewed by Faisal Zaidi

How well a shopper feels a site's product presentation lets them judge the product.

What it is

Zhenhui Jiang and Izak Benbasat included it in a 2007 model of online product presentations. On this site it is read alongside Haptic Information.

In effect

In their model, vividness and interactivity are key design features of a presentation, and perceived diagnosticity, fit between online and in-store shopping and enjoyment together shape attitudes toward shopping at a site. A study largely supported the model.

What it does not say

It is not the same thing as Haptic Information, which sits close to it on this site but describes a different part of how people decide. It also does not say that the finding reaches every product, buyer or setting; where this page goes beyond the cited research, the step is an inference and is labelled as one.
