Key ideas
The paper proposes two ways of construing a group, as a dynamic set of interacting people or as a category of similar people. In two experiments an analogy about bees induced one construal or the other. Participants recalled and reported different cues, similarity or interaction, depending on the construal, and their entitativity judgements rested on similarity or interaction accordingly. See Entitativity.
