Alistair Munro

Experimental and environmental economist who is the second author of the 2008 Land Economics study showing decoy effects in choice experiments for goods with no market price.
Who they are
Alistair Munro's own web page describes him as professor of economics at GRIPS, the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, and co-chief editor of Environmental and Resource Economics. It lists earlier posts as professor at Royal Holloway, University of London, which is the institution given beside his name on the title page of the paper's submitted manuscript, and inaugural head of the School of Economics at the University of East Anglia. His research areas are experimental, behavioural and environmental economics, often with a development policy focus, including household decision making, lab-in-the-field experiments and how Japan's shrinking population affects environmental policy. RePEc lists several other papers he wrote with Ian Bateman, the first author of the decoy study.
Key papers
Bateman, I. J., Munro, A., & Poe, G. L. (2008). Decoy effects in choice experiments and contingent valuation: asymmetric dominance. Land Economics, 84(1), 115-127.
Key ideas
Adding an asymmetrically dominated option significantly changed choices between the other options for non-market goods.
The shift carried through to the valuations people later gave those options.
