Andres Zuzunaga

Andres Zuzunaga drew the four-circle purpose diagram that was later relabelled with the Japanese word ikigai and reproduced worldwide. That is the only claim this page makes about him. It rests on two sources: Marc Winn's three published accounts, which credit the visual to him, and a comment in the thread of Winn's 2014 post, dated 29 April 2017 and signed Andres Zuzunaga. This site did not read his original publication of the diagram in any form or at any date, and the gap is not filled in with anything.
Who they are
This is a short page on purpose, and the shortness is the point.
What the record supports is that the four circles existed before the Japanese word was attached to them, that they were about purpose rather than about ikigai, and that they are Zuzunaga's. Winn describes him as a Spanish astrologer with the site cosmograma.com, says the centre of his version read purpose, and says the diagram reached him through David Carter's book Breakthrough. The signed comment in Winn's thread reads: "This is copy of a spanish graphic made Andres Zuzunaga two years before (2012): and it was published and well quoted in 2013 in this book . You can find many copies of them but no one with a creation date before 2012."
The date is unresolved and this page does not resolve it. Winn's 2025 account calls it "His 2011 framework". The signed comment says the graphic was made in 2012 and published in a book in 2013, without naming that book in the text as retrieved. Those are two different years from two different sources, and the honest position is to report the conflict rather than to choose.
Three further limits travel with everything above, and all three are recorded because they bear on how much weight the attribution can carry. The authorship of a blog comment cannot be independently verified from the page it sits on, although Winn himself accepts it as Zuzunaga's and has acted on it, writing that "Andres pointed this out in the comments here some years ago and he was right to. The diagram is his." David Carter's Breakthrough, the route by which the diagram is said to have reached Winn, has not been read here, so how the diagram is presented or credited inside it is unknown. And Zuzunaga's own publication of the diagram was not reached: not in Spanish, not in translation, not the 2013 book, and not at cosmograma.com. Every attempt to go further than the sentence at the top of this page runs into one of those three.
Nothing adverse, personal, disputed or intent-laden is asserted here about him, and no motive is imputed to anyone in this chain. Describing who drew a diagram and who relabelled it is a fact about the diagram.
Published output
He is neither a book author nor a working scientist as far as the record available to this site goes, so this page carries neither a Books table nor a Key papers list, and will not invent either. His published output, as it bears on this subject, is a single graphic: a four-circle diagram about purpose, published in Spanish at some point in 2011 or 2012, and quoted in a book in 2013 according to the signed comment. This site has not seen that graphic in its original form, has not identified the book, and has not read anything else he has published. If the original surfaces, this page will be rewritten from it.
Key ideas
The four-circle purpose diagram: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for, with purpose at the intersection.
The shape, not the word. Everything Japanese about the famous version of this picture was added in 2014 by somebody else.
