Key ideas
The paper reports three studies. Participants in the United States and Poland rated forty groups, and the ratings clustered into intimacy groups, task groups, social categories and loose associations. In a third study, participants rated groups they belonged to and valued membership most in groups they perceived as high in entitativity. See Four Types of Group and Entitativity.
