C. R. Snyder

C. R. Snyder is a psychologist and first author of the 1986 study of basking in reflected glory and cutting off reflected failure.
Who they are
Snyder led the 1986 paper in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, written with MaryAnne Lassegard and Carol Ford. It used a university student sample to test two tendencies in how people relate to groups: sharing in a group's success and distancing from it after failure.
The article on sports fans uses the paper as the source for the second tendency, which it calls cutting off reflected failure. No further finding is attributed to it.
