Timandra Harkness

Writer and broadcaster, author of Technology Is Not the Problem (2024), which argues that personalising technology spread because our sense of who we are had already shrunk, not the reverse.
Who they are
Harkness's book draws on philosophy and history as much as on data, with a bibliography that runs to Arendt, Appiah and Taylor. It is careful about its own errors and explicit that technology is not harmless. Its central claim is argued rather than tested. Notably, she endorses Christine Rosen's The Extinction of Experience on its praise pages, a sign that the two books differ more in emphasis than in fact.
