Estimating the prevalence and impact of online drip pricing

Alma Economics for the UK Department for Business and Trade

A report by Alma Economics for the UK Department for Business and Trade. Researchers bought one good or service from each of 525 online and app providers across retail, hospitality, entertainment and transport, recording every fee dripped during checkout. Excluding delivery fees, 46 per cent dripped at least one fee, rising to 72 per cent in transport and communication, and 41 per cent met more than one of the report's criteria of harm. Estimated extra spending is 595 million to 3.5 billion pounds a year.
