The most useful source in the file. A representative experiment with 800 US adults (N = 800) tested how the design of disclosure labels on sponsored news affects readers' ability to recognise it as paid advertising, and whether recognition changes perceptions of legacy and digital-first publishers. Fewer than 1 in 10 participants recognised native advertising, although well-designed labels made recognition easier. Participants who did recognise it held a lower opinion of the publisher and of advertising as an institution overall.
