Symmetry influences packaging aesthetic evaluation and purchase intention

Bigoin-Gagnan (2018) · International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management · Read the paper

Bigoin-Gagnan and Lacoste-Badie exposed 104 participants to fast-moving consumer goods packaging in a within-subject experiment. A mirror-symmetric arrangement of front-of-pack information around the vertical axis lowered perceived visual complexity, which in turn raised processing fluency, with the mediation indirect only. Symmetry had a positive influence on aesthetic evaluation and purchase intention.
