Patterns of Saudi Viewers
Degnah and Almahraj, writing in Arabic, study how Saudi viewers use the Netflix platform and how aware they are of its effects on society, using cultivation theory. They also explore how binge viewing relates to viewers' value systems. A survey of a purposive sample of about two hundred and fifty people found that Saudi viewers watch Netflix content in a binge pattern. Heavier viewing was positively related to greater awareness of the Western values and ideas promoted in Netflix drama, in line with the main hypothesis of cultivation theory. They also note that the content available in the Arab region differs from that in Western countries.
