Psychological safety and learning behavior in work teams
Edmondson presents a model of team learning and tests it in a multimethod field study. She introduces team psychological safety, a shared belief among team members that the team is safe for interpersonal risk taking, and models its effects together with team efficacy on learning and performance. In a study of fifty-one work teams in a manufacturing company, psychological safety was associated with learning behaviour while team efficacy was not, once safety was controlled. Learning behaviour mediated between psychological safety and team performance.
