Education Endowment Foundation (2019)

[evaluation report NOT READ; the findings reach the vault through the EEF's own press release of 11 July 2019, read in full, and through Gazmuri 2025] Education Endowment Foundation (2019). 'Changing Mindsets: Effectiveness trial', independently evaluated by the National Institute of Economic and Social Research; Foliano and colleagues. 5,018 pupils in 101 primary schools in England, randomised at school level, with headteachers and Year 6 teachers trained to deliver an eight-week programme of up to two and a half hours a week and to embed the approach across their teaching. The EEF's own words: the evaluation found no evidence that the Year 6 pupils who took part made any additional progress in literacy or numeracy as measured by national Key Stage 2 tests. Per Gazmuri's read of the report: Key Stage 2 maths minus 0.01, reading 0.00, grammar punctuation and spelling 0.00. THE CAVEAT THE ARTICLE PRINTS: many teachers in the control schools were also aware of growth mindsets theory because the practice is so widespread, which contaminates the comparison and makes a null weaker evidence of no effect than it looks.
