A meta-analysis of the effects of disclosing sponsored content
A meta-analysis led by Martin Eisend of 61 papers using 57 data sets on disclosing sponsored content. Disclosure reduced brand attitudes, credibility and evaluations of the source, and increased recognition of advertising, persuasion knowledge and resistance. Recognising sponsored content increased memory without changing evaluation; understanding it as persuasion changed evaluation.
