The Interplay of Beauty, Goodness, and Usability in Interactive Products

Hassenzahl (2004) · Read the paper

Hassenzahl, sole author. Two studies compared four skins for a music player, measuring perceived usability, hedonic attributes, goodness and beauty. Goodness depended on both perceived usability and hedonic attributes, and perceived usability became a strong determinant of goodness after use. Beauty depended largely on identification, what a product says about its owner to others, and beauty stayed stable with experience while perceived usability moved. The abstract gives no sample sizes.
