Universal Patterns in Color-Emotion Associations Are Further Shaped by Linguistic and Geographic Proximity
Jonauskaite and colleagues tested 4,598 participants from 30 nations speaking 22 native languages, who linked 20 emotion concepts to 12 colour terms. Pattern analyses found robust universal colour-emotion associations as well as local differences. A machine-learning model predicted a participant's nation from the associations, and similarity between nations was higher for nations closer in language or geography. The abstract does not report results for individual colours. Psychological Science 31(10), 1245-1260, 2020.
