In search of the powerful self-fulfilling prophecy

Madon, Jussim and Eccles examined moderators of naturally occurring self-fulfilling prophecies in 98 teachers and 1,539 sixth-grade mathematics pupils. Teacher perceptions predicted achievement much more strongly for lower achievers than for higher achievers. Teacher overestimates predicted achievement somewhat more strongly than underestimates, though that pattern was weaker.
