O preto como signo de qualidade e distinção na comunicação da embalagem de alimentos
Pereira examines the symbolic content of colour in food packaging communication, drawing on doctoral research that analysed packaging in ten colours and reporting the black subset. She treats colour as a sign system, using Saussure's linguistic theory and classification models from Peirce and the Groupe µ. Her conclusion is that black packages and labels reflect a broader spread of taste for luxury in industrialised food and reproduce signs of social distinction. It is a semiotic analysis of packages, not an experiment on shoppers.
