The Nature of Psychological Reactance Revisited: a Meta-Analytic Review

Rains (2013) · The Nature of Psychological Reactance Revisited: a Meta · Read the paper

Rains, sole author. A meta-analysis of 20 studies and 4,942 participants tested competing conceptualisations of reactance as path models against the pooled correlation matrix. The intertwined model, in which reactance is a latent factor indicated by anger and counterarguing, fitted the data best. This pools the measurement question rather than the size of reactance effects.
