A world of lies

The Global Deception Research Team (2006) · Journal of Cross · Read the paper

The Global Deception Research Team reports two worldwide studies of stereotypes about liars, covering 75 countries and 43 languages. The first asked participants an open-ended question about how to tell when people are lying, and the second used a questionnaire about lying. The studies reveal a dominant pan-cultural stereotype that liars avert their gaze, and the authors offer a social control interpretation of the findings.
