Thielsch first author. A first meta-analysis of interface aesthetics and objective user performance pooled 25 eligible studies, 101 observed effects and 3,025 participants across websites, software and other interactive systems. The overall effect was small, about 0.12 in standard-deviation units, with high heterogeneity between effects. None of the moderators tested, including interaction medium, task, goal orientation and how aesthetics was measured or manipulated, had a significant influence.
