Theorizing development of parasocial engagement

Tukachinsky (2018) ยท Read the paper

Tukachinsky and Stever propose a model of how parasocial relationships develop, building on a model of how relationships between people develop in stages. They describe the relational goals and parasocial interactions that belong to the stages, name the variables that predict engagement at each stage and outline the outcomes. They also assess how well existing measures capture the stages, and they treat the relationship as a dynamic process and not a single experience that varies in intensity.
