Show me your friends and I will tell you what type of person you are: How one's profile, number of friends, and type of friends influence impression formation on social network sites

Utz (2010) · Journal of Computer · Read the paper

Utz varied a target's own extraversion, the extraversion of the target's friends and the number of friends shown, and measured perceived popularity, communal orientation and social attractiveness. Under the warranting principle, information produced by others is weighted more than self-generated information. Other-generated information had a weak effect on popularity, a stronger effect on communal orientation and was the only kind to affect perceived social attractiveness. Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication 15(2), 314-335, 2010; author Sonja Utz.
