C. (2025). 'The evolving field of consumer research through the lens of its top journals.' Marketing Letters, 36(2), 227-242. doi:10.1007/s11002-024-09731-9. THIS IS THE FIELD'S OWN RECENT AUDIT OF ITS THREE LEADING JOURNALS AND ITS CATEGORIES ARE THE FINDING. Building on Simonson and colleagues 2001, the authors examine methods, topics and author networks across the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Marketing Research and the Journal of Consumer Psychology. Four results: most papers follow recent methodological trends regardless of journal or topic; the number of studies and of participants per study has increased substantially over time; JMR and JCR have more samples beyond students and Mechanical Turk than JCP; and JCP has more first-time authors while JCR has more junior ones. READ THE THIRD ONE CAREFULLY: fifteen years after the WEIRD paper, consumer research's own systematic audit of its own journals codes a sample as students, Mechanical Turk, or other. There is no country in the taxonomy and no culture in it. That is a positive finding about what the field counts, not merely an absence in the literature, and it is the sentence this article has been looking for.
