Flowers: Sunshine for the soul! How does floral colour influence preference, feelings of relaxation and positive up-lift?
Zhang, Dempsey and Cameron surveyed 670 UK residents about preferences and emotional responses to computer-generated images of daisy-like flowers in eight colours. White, blue and orange were most preferred. Warm colours such as orange, yellow and red evoked uplifted emotions, and the authors suggest flower colour can support relaxation and positive affect; individual colour preferences could produce psychological benefits independent of the colour's general effect.
