Adam D. Galinsky

Social psychologist who co-authored the 2012 paper that named enclothed cognition and the 2023 analysis that re-examined the evidence for it.
Who they are
With Hajo Adam, Galinsky wrote "Enclothed cognition" in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology in 2012. After a pretest linking the lab coat with attentiveness and carefulness, wearing a lab coat improved selective attention, and a coat described as a doctor's coat improved sustained attention compared with the same coat described as a painter's coat.
He and Adam were co-authors of the z-curve and meta-analysis led by C. Blaine Horton, published online in 2023. It covered 105 effects from 40 studies with 3,789 participants, raised concerns about the replicability of early studies, found evidential value in work published after 2015 and credited improved research practices from the mid-2010s.
