Jennifer M. Logg

Decision researcher and first author of the 2019 paper that reported algorithm appreciation.
Who they are
With Julia Minson and Don Moore, Logg reported six experiments in Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes in 2019. Lay people adhered more to advice when it was attributed to an algorithm than when it was attributed to a person. The tasks included numeric estimates about a visual stimulus and forecasts of song popularity and romantic attraction.
The effect waned in two places: when people chose between an algorithm and their own estimate, and among experienced professional forecasters. The finding runs against algorithm aversion, which Berkeley Dietvorst and colleagues reported in 2015, and later work suggests the type of task decides which pattern appears.
